You might not have heard much about Guyana, but a long-standing border dispute with its neighbor, Venezuela, is now making headlines and could have major global implications.
The Esequibo region, a vast 160,000 sq km territory, is at the heart of a centuries-old dispute between Venezuela and Guyana.
Venezuela claims Esequibo, which makes up about two-thirds of Guyana's landmass, based on historical maps from Spanish colonial times.
